Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is opening its doors to everyone. Sony has confirmed a free, 72-hour Open Beta running July 24 through July 26, 2026, across PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store — a last, large-scale rehearsal before the full game launches on August 6 PlayStation announcement. No PlayStation Plus subscription is required, and there is no registration step: you simply download the client from your platform store and play.
The beta window is tight but global. It opens July 24 at 12:00am PT (8:00am BST / 4:00pm JST) and closes July 26 at 11:59pm PT (July 27, 7:59am BST / 3:59pm JST). Pre-downloads go live two hours before the servers open, so you can be queued and ready the moment the fight begins. One caveat: you will need an internet connection and a PlayStation Account to access the beta on both PS5 and PC official game page.

What you can play
The Open Beta unlocks 15 of the game’s 20 launch characters, and the headline addition is Blade — making his playable debut in the beta after being absent from earlier Closed Betas. The available roster spans Marvel’s factions:
- Fighting Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther
- Unbreakable X-Men: Storm, Magik, Wolverine
- Amazing Guardians: Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord
- Peni Parker
- Samurai Outriders: Ghost Rider
- Knights of Doom: Doctor Doom, Magneto
The cast is built around the game’s signature 4v4 team combat, so the beta is less about one-on-one spacing and more about tag-team pressure, assists, and team synergy. Returning Closed Beta veterans will recognize the feel; first-timers get a generous on-ramp.
Six stages round out the backdrop, each lifted from a landmark Marvel location: Marvel’s New York (Day), Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, Wakanda, and Marvel’s New York (Night). The day-and-night New York variants give the same skyline two distinct moods, which should make for some striking replay footage during the beta window.
Modes worth trying
Beyond the expected online bouts, the Open Beta is pitched as a tour of what the full package will offer in August. Casual Match drops you against similarly skilled opponents for quick sessions, while Ranked Match is the ladder for players who want to test their placement. Versus Mode covers local play — challenge a friend on the same system or practice against the CPU whenever you like.
The Open Lobby is the social centerpiece. It’s a hub built from miniature versions of the game’s stages where you pick one of 16 avatars (each with four color variations), wander around, and communicate through free chat, preset messages, stamps, and emotes. Arcade cabinets scattered through the lobby let you challenge other players on the spot. For newcomers, Start Up Battle is an interactive tutorial that walks through the fundamentals of 4v4 combat and team systems before dropping you into a trial match, and Training Mode lets you experiment with every character and drill combos at your own pace.
How to get in
Preparation is minimal. Make sure you have a PlayStation Account, confirm you’re on PS5, Steam, or Epic Games Store, and grab the pre-download when it appears two hours ahead of the July 24 opening. Because the beta is free and Plus-free, this is the lowest-commitment way to judge whether Tōkon’s team-based fighting clicks for you before the paid launch.
The full game arrives August 6, so the Open Beta doubles as a final beta test for the netcode and servers under a broad, unrestricted load. If you have any interest in Marvel’s take on 4v4 fighters, the July 24–26 window is the moment to find out.
