Cloudflare announced a refreshed community program built around two tracks: Cloudflare Ambassadors and Cloudflare Community Engineers. The initiative formalizes support for developers who promote Cloudflare’s platform in local ecosystems while also expanding direct funding for open-source maintainers whose work underpins the modern web.
Ambassadors will bring Cloudflare into their own communities through events, shared learning, and content. That could mean organizing a local meetup, leading a student group, publishing tutorials, or simply being the person other developers turn to when they want to understand what is possible with Workers. Selected participants receive credits, marketing assets, and technical resources when hosting meetups, hackathons, workshops, or talks source: Cloudflare Community. They also gain a visible role in Cloudflare’s online spaces, including Discord, so other builders can identify them as community resources. Applications for the 2026-27 cohort are open now and close on September 6, with selections announced by October 5.
Community Engineers targets open-source maintainers working on projects in Cloudflare’s orbit, including Astro, Agents SDK, EmDash, Hono, and Vinext. Cloudflare is committing an additional $1M in funding to sponsor and support open-source projects over the next two years source: Cloudflare Blog. The program has no maximum term because open-source work does not fit neatly into annual cycles. Some projects require maintenance for years, while other times contributors do exactly the work needed at the right moment. This is intended to support both patterns. The new designation also grants Community Engineers a special role in Cloudflare’s Discord server and other online spaces.
The Discord server, which has grown to nearly 100,000 users since its 2020 launch, will form a new committee pairing Ambassadors with Cloudflare staff source: Cloudflare Blog. Rather than focusing on moderation and admin tasks, which are increasingly automated, the committee will steer conversations toward domain experts and convene sessions with internal teams and makers. Cloudflare’s developer platform investments continue alongside the community refresh. The company’s open-source runtime workerd, which powers Cloudflare Workers, is publicly available on GitHub source: workerd runtime.
