Firebird, an emerging AI cloud provider, opened the CIS region’s largest AI factory in Armenia, establishing a new regional hub for AI training, inference, and model deployment. The facility in Hrazdan went live after just over six months of construction and is already attracting demand from AI-native companies.
The factory will deploy more than 70,000 NVIDIA Rubin and Blackwell GPUs and 300 megawatts of AI infrastructure capacity by the end of 2027, according to NVIDIA’s official announcement. That scale makes it the largest AI computing installation in the Commonwealth of Independent States region to date.
The opening ceremony brought together Nikol Pashinyan, prime minister of the Republic of Armenia; Zhaslan Madiyev, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and David Allen, U.S. chargé d’affaires a.i. in Armenia. Their attendance underscores the geopolitical and economic significance Firebird and its backers are attaching to the project.
Under the hood, the facility runs on Dell Technologies PowerEdge servers and uses the NVIDIA DSX platform to unify design, simulation, and operations across compute, power, and cooling. NVIDIA says DSX enables the factory to run up to 40% more GPUs on the same footprint than conventional data center designs, directly improving tokens per dollar and megawatt efficiency. DSX combines reference architectures, simulation tools, and open software libraries to help infrastructure builders optimize AI factories for lowest token cost.
Schneider Electric delivered medium- and low-voltage switchgear, three-phase uninterruptible power supply systems, and rack enclosures to meet the accelerated deployment schedule. Vertiv provided the cooling architecture, using chilled-water technology and its iCOM CWM Chilled Water Manager to coordinate thermal resources as AI workloads fluctuate.
Firebird’s roadmap extends beyond Armenia. The company is pursuing an approximately 2-gigawatt AI infrastructure plan spanning Armenia, Kazakhstan, and additional frontier markets. NVIDIA has disclosed an intent to invest in Firebird, building on an earlier investment by CoreWeave. Perplexity is already working with Firebird to access high-performance infrastructure for its AI agent platform and answer engine.
For AI practitioners, the factory matters because it adds local, high-density compute capacity in a region that previously relied on distant cloud regions. Enterprises and researchers can run large-scale training and inference closer to home, reducing latency and addressing data sovereignty requirements for local languages and industries.
