Helldivers 2 opens the Void with a live update

Helldivers 2: A deep dive into the Illuminate Void – PlayStation.Blog

  • [August 18, 2026 / today] → PlayStation Blog — Helldivers 2 “Devoid of Liberty” update is live and the Gateway to the Void opens today
  • [August 17, 2026] → zBrandco — PlayStation held its State of Play showcase on August 17

The Gateway is open, and as of today PlayStation Blog the Helldivers 2 war spills past the edge of the known galaxy and into the Void.

Arrowhead built the Void as a new, persistent front during the “Census Thunder” campaign, where players banked Voteless tissue samples to help Super Earth’s Ministry of Science stabilize a wormhole on Rirga Bay. Now that doorway holds.

“The Gateway is now open,” said Arrowhead in the PlayStation Blog announcement for Helldivers 2 PlayStation Blog. “We’re sending our best, Helldivers. And that means you.”

Inside, the rules bend. The planets pulled into the Void show no stars and no sky; they have been mutated and reborn around Illuminate ruins. Each operation now rolls several randomized primary objectives instead of a fixed path, so squads have to think fast and adapt on the fly.

The Void fights back

The Source Planet was once Seasse. Now it is a shade of its former self, swallowed by the Void’s flora and patrolled by the Wretch and the Crusher. Arrowhead is asking players to document the corruption with a tactical video camera, wreck Illuminate structures, and run reconnaissance before extracting.

Backup arrives sooner than before. SEAF support squads now deploy alongside Helldivers, and secondary extraction zones can be unlocked on Void planets when a squad needs another way off the surface. Time is the real enemy: the Void is lethal, and the longer a team lingers, the worse the odds.

A live update with a catch

Devoid of Liberty is live now on PS5 and PC Helldivers 2 on PlayStation. The drop lands a day after PlayStation’s August 17 State of Play showcase PlayStation confirms August 17 State of Play show, part of a crowded month for the platform’s live-service lineup.

There is a catch for console players. Gameplay still requires a paid PlayStation Plus subscription on console, sold separately from the game. PC players skip that gate, but that split makes the Void a clean test of who is willing to pay for the ride into Super Earth’s strangest war yet.

The Illuminate broke through. Super Earth is pushing back. The counteroffensive starts now, and the Void is not finished with the Helldivers.
