Phantom Blade Zero deep dive confirms October 29 PS5 release

Phantom Blade Zero State of Play dives deep into combat and the Wulin world – PlayStation.Blog

Donnie Yen crouches in a rain-slicked courtyard, steel meeting steel, as a new State of Play deep dive finally shows Phantom Blade Zero moving.

The dark wuxia action game from S-Game arrives on PlayStation 5 PlayStation on October 29 PlayStation Blog, with an October 28 launch in the US and select regions PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation lifted the curtain on the combat during a deep-dive episode on August 17 PlayStation Blog. The studio said Donnie Yen serves as creative consultant and brings the character Mó Yuan to life through facial and motion capture.

A combat system built around 30 weapons

Players unlock more than 30 main weapons plus 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges, the studio detailed in the broadcast PlayStation Blog.

You can upgrade gear, pair it with accessories, and reforge a build to recover materials if a path stops working. Defeating certain enemies expands the arsenal, handing players more ways to approach the martial-arts masters and assassins who plot against the protagonist, Soul.

Donnie Yen brings the Wulin to life

The studio said, “This has been one of the most exciting parts of developing Phantom Blade Zero, and we’ve been dying to share it for a long time” PlayStation Blog. Yen’s likeness, performance, and creative guidance push the essence of kung-fu cinema into the controller.

But the deep systems may intimidate newcomers who only want the story. Wayfarer mode strips the challenge so players can move through the Wulin’s intrigue at their own pace.

Three ways to tune the difficulty

Hellwalker ramps enemy intelligence for veterans. Sixty-Six Days mode is the brutal option the studio warns is “not for the faint of heart” PlayStation Blog.

Side quests scattered through the Wulin can open new story paths and deepen the world’s central mystery. The State of Play show that framed this deep dive is recapped in our separate report PlayStation confirms August 17 State of Play show.

Phantom Blade Zero still keeps some systems under wraps until launch. The rain-soaked courtyard with Yen at its center is only the first frame of a fight players won’t fully read until October.
