Sony has settled on an unusually contrast-heavy trio for August. PlayStation Plus members at every tier can add Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, Big Walk and Signalis to their libraries from Tuesday, August 4 through Monday, August 31, as announced on the PlayStation.Blog by Sony’s director of content acquisition Adam Michel. One is a sprawling open-world zombie sandbox, one is a cooperative game about literally going for a walk, and one is a claustrophobic love letter to PS1-era survival horror. There is no unifying theme here, and that is arguably the point — August covers three completely different moods.
The headliner by sheer scale is Techland’s parkour-zombie sequel. Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition — the version that bundles the base game with its accumulated updates — lands on both PS5 and PS4. You play Aiden Caldwell, a wanderer navigating The City’s rival factions while a virus keeps converting most of humanity into something worth vaulting over. The Reloaded packaging matters for anyone who bounced off the game at its 2022 launch: Techland has spent years reworking combat, physics and endgame systems through free updates, and the four-player co-op remains the standout way to see how another player’s story choices reshaped their version of The City compared to yours.
The quiet one and the loud one
Big Walk, a PS5-only pick, is the wildcard of the month. It is a cooperative multiplayer adventure about teamwork and talking — navigating a wide-open world with friends using an assortment of communication tools and toys, and improvising new ways to be understood when the game suddenly takes your voice away. Sony’s own description leans into the hangout factor: watch the sunset, or steal a friend’s binoculars and kick them into the ocean. Coming from House House, the studio that turned a horrible goose into a cultural moment, the pedigree for low-stakes multiplayer mischief is real.
Signalis pulls in the opposite direction entirely. The PS4 release (playable on PS5 via backward compatibility) casts you as Elster, a technician Replika searching a surreal retrotech facility for her lost partner. Developer rose-engine’s 2022 debut earned its reputation on deliberately restrictive inventory management, tank-adjacent tension and a dread-soaked story that rewards a second run. If you have any affection for classic Resident Evil or Silent Hill structure, this is the strongest catalog pull of the three — and its short runtime makes it very finishable inside a month.
The Tōkon freebie has a different clock
Alongside the monthly games, Sony is dropping a MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls PlayStation Plus Pack on the PlayStation Store starting August 6. The pack contains five avatars — Captain America, Storm, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider — plus a set of Result Screen Character Poses covering 20 fighters, including Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord and Peni Parker. The avatars work at the profile level on both PS5 and PS4, while the poses require the PS5 version of the game and the pack to both be installed. Unlike the monthly games’ four-week window, the pack stays claimable until August 6, 2027, so there is no rush on that one.
The practical bit
The usual PS Plus mechanics apply, and they reward one specific habit: claim everything before August 31 even if you have no immediate plans to play. Once redeemed, all three games stay in your library for as long as your membership is active. Sony also notes the lineup may differ by region, so check your local PlayStation Store on August 4 rather than assuming this exact trio. July’s games remain claimable until August 3, which gives you a weekend of overlap to sweep up both months.
For a month with no blockbuster new-release tie-in, this is a deceptively strong spread — a 60-hour open world, a party game built for voice chat chaos, and one of the best horror throwbacks of the decade, each aimed at a completely different evening.
