The variety on display is doing real advertising work for the remaster’s rendering pipeline. Sony detailed that pipeline in its June 29 PS5 Pro enhancements breakdown: ray-traced global illumination runs across all three graphics modes on both PS5 and PS5 Pro, reacting to time-of-day and weather in real time, while the ocean itself uses a physically based simulation with new tessellation, volumetric foam, and dynamic bubble systems.

The waterspout in artenpixels_’s featured capture is that system photographed in the wild, not a scripted cutscene moment. Fog scenes like GenieCrazy‘s benefit from the same volumetrics, which is precisely the kind of atmosphere-heavy material photo mode communities gravitate toward.
The Jackdaw theme: a two-week window
Share of the Week normally rotates weekly, but the follow-up theme breaks the pattern: Sony is giving entrants two weeks to shoot aboard the Jackdaw, Edward’s brig and the remaster’s floating centerpiece. Submissions run through 11:59 PM PT on August 5, 2026, tagged #PSshare and #PSBlog on Twitter or Instagram as specified in the column.
The doubled window is a practical tell. Ship-based photography is fussier than landscape work — rigging clutters sightlines, deck combat is fast, and the best sail-and-storm compositions depend on weather the player cannot fully control. A longer window raises the odds of the kind of dramatic, weather-dependent captures that made this week’s selection.

For Ubisoft, six user handles are carrying the marketing this week, and the screenshots make a better case for the ocean tech than any spec sheet did.
