Ubisoft and Xbox just handed console players one of the better cross-platform perks of the year. As announced on Xbox Wire, the two companies are expanding their partnership on two fronts: a wide slate of Ubisoft premium editions and add-on content is now available through Xbox on PC, and — the headline for anyone with an Ubisoft-heavy digital library — owners of the digital Xbox console version of thirteen selected games can now claim the PC version at no additional cost.
The free-redemption list covers a meaningful chunk of Ubisoft’s modern catalogue: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Far Cry 6, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Riders Republic, Skull and Bones, The Crew 2, The Crew Motorfest, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and Watch Dogs Legion.
How the redemption actually works
The PC versions are delivered through Ubisoft Connect, Ubisoft’s own launcher, rather than the Xbox PC app — so you’ll want Ubisoft Connect updated to its newest version before your library will show the titles. Per the announcement’s own timeline, anyone buying a digital version of a listed title from July 21 onward receives both the Xbox console and PC versions immediately, while existing owners are being granted the PC version in a progressive rollout running between July 21 and August 4. If your copy hasn’t appeared yet, that window is the reason — no support ticket required.
Two fine-print details worth knowing before you plan a reinstall. First, the offer is one-directional: owning the PC version does not grant you a console copy. Second, your editions and DLC largely travel with you — Xbox Wire says owned edition content and add-ons transfer to the PC version at no extra cost, with the exception of consumable items like in-game currency and one-time-use content, which may not carry over. Ubisoft Connect’s Properties page for each game shows a full breakdown of what DLC landed on the PC side, so that’s the place to audit your entitlements rather than trusting memory.
The other half: premium editions on Xbox on PC
Running alongside the giveaway, Xbox on PC is picking up premium editions and selected add-on content for a broad range of Ubisoft titles. The highlights Xbox names are current heavy-hitters — Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Skull and Bones, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown — plus back-catalogue coverage spanning the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, The Crew, and Watch Dogs franchises. For PC-first players who buy through the Xbox storefront, that closes a long-standing gap where base games were present but deluxe upgrades and season content meant a trip to another store.
Why this matters beyond the freebie
The move slots into a clear pattern for Microsoft’s “play everywhere” strategy this month — the same week’s Xbox release slate is anchored by Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Xbox has been steadily pitching the PC app as a first-class citizen rather than a console companion. For Ubisoft, seeding thirteen games’ worth of PC entitlements costs little — most of these titles are years past their sales peak — and pulls lapsed console players into Ubisoft Connect, where the publisher owns the storefront relationship, the telemetry, and the upsell path for live-service content in Siege, Skull and Bones, and The Crew Motorfest.
For players, though, the calculus is simpler. If you bought Valhalla or Far Cry 6 digitally on console years ago, you now have a permanent PC copy waiting — with your DLC attached — for the cost of installing a launcher. Cross-progression-friendly titles benefit most: Rainbow Six Siege players can hop between couch and desk without repurchasing, and The Crew Motorfest’s map is considerably prettier at desktop frame rates. Check your Ubisoft Connect library before August 4; the rollout should have reached everyone by then, and any missing edition content will be visible on each game’s Properties page.
