Ubisoft Bordeaux shipped the free Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites update for Xbox Series X|S on August 6, 2026, and the timing coincides with Xbox Free Play Days through August 9, giving new players a no-cost window to try the refreshed military shooter Xbox Wire.
The headline technical improvement is a free 4K and 60 FPS upgrade for Xbox Series X|S, which the Live Strategy & Analytics Director Yossef Benzeghadi identified as the community’s top requested feature. The update also introduces a new story-driven mission set in a darker version of Bolivia, where players hunt a new antagonist named La Llorona alongside her cult, Los Penitentes. For players who prefer the original campaign, Last Rites does not spoil main-story progression, and rewards from the new mission carry over to the base game Xbox Wire.
Community feedback directly shaped the feature set. Ubisoft Bordeaux ran workshops with active players, read forum comments, and watched roleplay videos to identify the most frustrating gaps. That process produced several quality-of-life additions: the ability to hide throwable impact previews and interactable-object shaders, synchronized sound muting for hidden UI elements, and “Ghost Parameters” that let players toggle tactical reloading, limit primary weapons to one or two, and set allowed revives from none to unlimited. World and Session settings now let hosts fix the time of day and weather for an entire co-op session, deactivate enemy patrol rates and alarms, and make SAM launcher destruction permanent Xbox Wire.
The return of the Predator mission is the update’s nostalgia anchor. Game Director Benjamin Rousseau Lemaire confirmed that the original English voice actors reprised their roles and that the Predator fight preserves its exact challenge. Completing Predator unlocks the Bio-Mask reward for use in Last Rites, while finishing the new La Llorona mission grants Operator Skins usable in the main campaign. For players who want finer control, the difficulty system now exposes individual parameters such as vehicle destruction thresholds, enemy perception, and health-regeneration timers instead of locking them behind broad presets Xbox Wire.
The base edition and Definitive Edition both include Last Rites at no extra charge. The Definitive Edition bundles the Season Pass, Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts DLCs, and cosmetic packs, while the standard edition remains available through Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate or Ubisoft+ Premium for Xbox Microsoft Store. If you are considering the Definitive Edition specifically, it adds the Peruvian Connection Pack, Ghost Packs, Bolivian Minibus vehicle, and Year 2 Pass alongside the base game and DLCs Microsoft Store.
